Prof. Alessandro Sannino

Professor of Materials Science and Biotechnology at the University of Salento and Visiting Scientist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Boston. His research is on macromolecular materials, with particular attention to biomaterials, gastro-intestinal tract therapies and tissue engineering. He is author of over 200 scientific publications and over 30 international patents, he has received numerous awards in Italy and abroad. He has coordinated over 40 public-private research projects for a total budget of over 30 million euros. He founded several spin-off research companies, including Gelesis (www.gelesis.com), based in Calimera and Boston since 2012, with a total fundraising of over 130 million dollars and a NYSE ticketing. Member of the Executive Committee of ARTI Apulia and of the Board of Directors of the DHiTech Technological District of the Apulia Region, consultant for the Cotec, Foundation of the Presidency of the Republic, in 2011 he was appointed by the Minister of Health as expert of the Superior Council of Health for the Tissue Engineering. He has been praised by the Ethics Committees of over 50 leading international Clinical Research Centres for human studies on products developed by him. He coordinates the Bioengineering Laboratories at the University of Salento and at the DHiTech Technological District of the Apulia Region and carries out a constant activity of support to the translational paths of numerous young national and foreign researchers.

Dott. Lucio Luigi Gaita

Graduated in Economics and Banking Science at the University of Siena, he has built up an extensive career in over forty years in banking, taking part in various extraordinary operations, such as, merges, purchases of business branches, securitisations etc., with several responsibilities and managerial positions, in Italy and abroad, and in particular in Banca Apulia SpA where he is promoted to Manager in 2000 and to Central Director in 2003, to then be appointed as Vice General Manager from 2007 to 2010; he holds the position as General Manager in Veneto Banca Group at the foreign offices in Albania from 2011 to 2013 and in Moldova from 2013 to 2015. Ultimately, he is Manager in the Intesa Sanpaolo S.p.A. Group until January 31st 2018.

Avv. Paolo De Carlo

Lawyer, specialised in commercial law, with particular reference to commercial contracts, extraordinary transactions and aspects related to the transfer and enhancement of intellectual property. He has gained particular experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sector by providing assistance to Italian and multinational companies in the field of extraordinary operations, compliance with industry regulations, contracts relating to the development, testing, production and marketing of pharmaceutical products and medical devices and related regulatory aspects. As part of the activities connected with the technological transfer and the enhancement of intellectual property, he was appointed as consultant of various investment initiatives in the biotechnology field. He began his professional career in 1994 at the Pedersoli Law Firm in Milan. In 1998 he joined Simmons & Simmons LLP, becoming a partner in 2006 and Head of the Commercial Department and Life Sciences sector for Italy. Since 2012 he is partner of the law firm R&P Legal. He provides legal advice on an ongoing basis to pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, medical devices manufacturers, both Italian and foreigners, research institutions and researchers, in every area of their activity. He graduated in law at the University of Genoa, and he is a licenced lawyer and member of the Milan Bar Association.

Dott. Giuseppe Lombardi

He has worked in the banking sector since the 1970s, holding positions of responsibility and management that have seen him involved in many operations throughout his long career. In particular he is Head of the Legal and Corporate Affairs Department as well as member of the Supervisory Body 231/2001 from 2007 to 2012 in Banca Carime S.p.A., General Manager at Banca Popolare di Sviluppo from 2013 to 2016, until he is appointed as Chief Executive Officer at Banca Regionale di Sviluppo from 2019 to 2020 to then in 2021 become its Vice Chairman. He also dedicates his professional expertise to the activity of consultant.

Dott.ssa Katia Valerio

Graduated in Economics at the University of Bari, she obtained her PhD in Business Economics in 2001, then continued her studies with a master in “Economics and Finance” at the Luiss School of Management. She has held various positions of responsibility, and in particular from 1999 to 2003 as M&A Manager at Deloitte Corporate Finance; from 2003 to 2008 as Manager at Deloitte Consulting where she was actively engaged in project management and strategic consultancy for companies. From 2008 to 2011 she is a member of the Board of Directors at Finsale, a leading company in the production and trading of salt, and from 2007 to 2019 she is the Chief Executive Officer at NO.VA Service, a consultancy company operating in the real estate sector. Currently, she is shareholder (or partner) of companies operating in the real estate and tourism sector.

Dott. Ercole Festa

Corporate Affairs Manager (06.2005 – 09.2019) of the Banking Group BANCAPULIA S.p.A. among the most active in Southern Italy, which operated as an independent group until May 2010 when it merged into two different important Italian Banking Groups (Veneto Banca and Intesa Sanpaolo). As part of his extensive experience, he has worked in various sectors, including corporate, structuring of extraordinary transactions (acquisitions and disposals of investments in various sectors, listing of companies and corporate bonds, public purchase offers, mergers, transfers and sales of business branches, securitisations), management of investments (portfolio of approximately € 300 mln), corporate disclosure to the markets, relations with the Supervisory Bodies (Bank of Italy, Consob and IVASS) and with Borsa Italiana, relations with shareholders and institutional investors; he also participated in real estate funds as chairman of the advisory committee and chairman of the participants’ meeting. He has been involved in investments in innovative sectors including an important project for the study, development and construction (in progress) of a thermal plant that uses the flameless oxy-combustion technology that will revolutionise the world of thermal treatment of classic waste. He began his professional career in 1999 as auditor at the international KPMG network. He graduated in 1998 in Economics and Banking Sciences at the University of Siena, he is a qualified chartered accountant and statutory auditor enrolled in the register held by the MEF.
